Basic Teachings of the Catholic Faith

St. Mary’s Catholic Church has been approved by Bishop Vasquez to offer required classes for certification of catechists on-site. The first of these classes, entitled “Catechetical Toolbox,” will be offered during August, 2021, on these dates:

8/2/2021, 8/9/2021, 8/16/2021, 8/23/2021, and 8/30/2021.

Classes will be offered on Mondays, in the morning from 9am—noon, and in the evening from 6pm—9pm, at the Knights of Columbus Hall Located at 705 S. Austin Street, Brenham.

Completion of this series will constitute 20 classroom hours toward certification at Level 1.


The Basic Teachings of the Catholic Faith Program offers a general introduction to the theological principles found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This program serves as the first step in basic adult formation for all ministry groups that seek evangelization and catechetical certification. The coursework includes; Introduction to Scripture; Creed; Liturgy and Christian Morality; Prayer and Spirituality. Each of the five segments offers 6 clock hours of instruction. 


Upon completion of these studies and a day of discernment retreat, all Level 1 requirements will be met. Dates for the Basic Teachings courses will be announced at a later time.


Please fill out the registration form by 7/15/2021 so that the required materials may be purchased. The price of the workbooks is $9.95 for catechists attending from parishes other than St. Mary’s.
